My bro bought a copy of The New Paper today and the front page caught my eye.
"Gay Okay"
The gay divide.
Then i remembered recently, i just read an article on TODAY about MM Lee's comments on decriminalising homosexuality. i forgot the date of the article and can't seem to find it at home anymore. Grrr...
i remembered that it was sth about decriminalising homosexuals cos they are creative and add value to society.
But i also rem feeling that the way this msg is brought across makes it seem as if one is just taking advantage of homosexuals without actually acknowledging them. Makes it seem as if homosexuals are "forgiven" for their "crimes" because they add value to society in terms of work and creativity.
Like this:
In the New Paper article today, there's this line that says:
"In a separate Reuters interview, MM Lee has said: "If we want creative people, then we got to put up with their idiosyncrasies so long as they don't infect the heartland.""
Maybe it's just me, but it sounds... wrong.
But wait. Why is homosexuality a crime?
Maybe it's because most people consider homosexuals to be promiscuous and hedonistic.
But why limit that to homosexuals?
I'm sure that there are faithful and monogamous homosexuals out there. There are people who said that their gay friends are monogamous, not promiscuous.
And a typical Don Juan would most likely qualify as being promiscuous and hedonistic too, no?
The article also said that it's ironic how both gay people and religious leaders use morality to back up their arguments.
But morals are essentially based on your own principals.
And i guess i can never understand how and why religion forbids homosexuality because I'm a free thinker.
For me, I can't come up with any strong arguments against homosexuality, so I'm left puzzled at homophobic-ness and why homosexuality is considered a crime.
